L.A. GALAXY TO HOST BRAZIL NIGHT ON
SEPTEMBER 10 AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER
Galaxy to Celebrate Brazilian Independence with Music,

Dancers and Jujitsu at 2pm, followed by L.A.-Houston Match at 5pm

CARSON, CA (Friday, August 25, 2006) – The Los Angeles Galaxy and Brazilian Nites Productions present Brazil Night on Sunday, September 10 beginning at 2 pm before the Galaxy’s match against the Houston Dynamo at 5 pm in The Home Depot Center. In honor of Brazilian Independence, the Galaxy will be celebrating Brazil’s rich history and tradition with music, dancers and Jujitsu.

“The Brazilian culture has long been synonymous with the game of soccer,” said L.A. Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. “The rhythm, the music, the passion, the color and the joy that the Brazilian community exhibits for the game and their heritage is something that we can all celebrate.”

Brazil Night festivities include a Brazilian themed vendor village, Oya Brazil Samba Show dancers, Jujitsu and Capoeira demonstrations, and will feature LIVE concert performances by Baby do Brasil (formally known as Baby Consuelo) and Sonia Santos and Ana Gazzola  with their band Brasil-Brazil Show.

Baby do Brasil, the perpetual muse of the "Novos Baianos", adopted the stage name Baby Consuelo in 1966. She created her own irreverent and innovating style. Baby is considered today as one of the best singers from Brazil and was called the "Latin Janis Joplin" by the L.A. Times.

Famous songs of her repertoire such as "Menino do Rio”, composed especially for her by Caetano Veloso and "Todo Dia Era Dia de Índio" (Jorge Ben) belongs to the "Classics of MPB". She recorded regularly until 1986. In the 90s, she changed her name to Baby do Brasil (Baby from Brazil).

Brasil-Brazil Show, a local band, will also perform and are known for an invigorating, magical experience comprised of internationally renowned performers, featuring Ana Gazzola and Sonia Santos. Fans can expect the fervor, enthusiasm and excitement of popular Brazilian music with a variety of styles, rhythms and faces of this colorful and tropical culture. The band is outfitted in bright yellow and green costumes and the production has the joyful feel of Carnaval.
